COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As Hurricane Helene threatens the Big Bend and Panhandle areas of Florida, a Coldwater BPU crew is on the way to provide assistance for expected power outages.
Four CBPU linemen and two bucket trucks were headed down to Tallahassee on Wednesday to lend a helping hand to the communities impacted by Helene.
Forecasters say Helene could make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 3 hurricane Thursday evening as it intensifies over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
As of midday Wednesday, the storm was around 500 miles southwest of Tampa.
Tallahassee has never taken a direct hit from a major hurricane and area residents were being told they maybe without power for days.
Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey says crews from nine states are coming to the area to help.
