COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A new three year contract between Branch County and LifeCare Ambulance will take effect on January 1, 2025 after it was formally approved by the Branch County Board of Commissioners last Tuesday.
After two options were initially presented to the county during the summer, the 911 Board requested a third option for service.
The third option was approved by both the 911 Board and County Commissioners. It called for two units around the clock and a third unit that would operate eight hours, five days a week with Priority one calls at 15 minutes or less at least 80 percent of the time at a cost of $192,500.
Questions were raised about coverage in the farthest areas of the county, how performance is monitored and how the funds are being used.
Steve Frisbee from LifeCare said during the October 17 work session that an audit report can be provided to the Commissioners and that operations are overseen by a Board of Directors. Three Branch County residents are members of this board.
Administrator Bud Norman says funding for the LifeCare contract would come from contingencies.
