SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WTVB) – A bounce back season for the Bronson Vikings came to an end Friday night as they lost to the Schoolcraft Eagles 28-14 in the opening round of the M.H.S.A.A. Division Seven football tournament.
Schoolcraft’s T.J. Luteyn scored from 39 yards out just 1:17 into the game to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
But the Vikings signed up for a whole 48 minutes. They took a 8-7 lead with 1:46 left in the first half on a one foot quarterback sneak by Spencer Losinski and a two point conversion pass from Kamron Brackett to Ben Stevens.
The Eagles responded quickly as Jack DeVries threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to Drew Enright just 36 seconds later. That scoring strike gave Schoolcraft a 14-8 halftime lead.
Schoolcraft tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter on a five yard scamper by Jadan Reiber and a 30 yard run by Evan Feller.
Aidan Whitaker’s 95 yard kickoff return for Bronson on the final play of the third quarter closed out the scoring.
Losinski was 12 of 21 in the air for 189 yards. Stevens rushed for 66 yards on seven carries. Devin Stuart had eight catches for 106 yards.
Schoolcraft had a slight 286-280 edge in total yards. Bronson’s defense forced three fumbles and the Vikings wound up plus three in takeaways and giveaways.
Bronson wound up 6-4 as they were making their first post season appearance in a non-Covid 19 season since 2012. That was the last year they finished above .500.
Schoolcraft is making its 22nd appearance in the state football playoffs in the last 25 years.
