COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash with a semi on Fenn Road near I-69.
The crash was reported at 1:52 p.m.. It forced Fenn Road to be shut down while the investigation was being conducted by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
The Michigan State Police assisted with the investigation. The Coldwater Fire Department was also at the scene.
No further information was immediately available.
It’s the area’s second fatal crash in recent days. Michigan State Police at Marshall investigated a head on crash on Sunday in St. Joseph County.
A preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a Mercedes Benz, passenger car was traveling north on Sevison Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, and crashed head on into a Ford Explorer.
Both occupants of the Ford were pronounced dead at the scene. They were described as a 60-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man from Constantine.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 22-year-old White Pigeon man, was transported by Life Care ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for non-life-threatening injuries.
State Police say the driver of the Mercedes was operating on a suspended license and speed is believed to be a factor in this crash.
No arrests have been made yet. State Police report a full copy of the crash report will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review and possible charges on multiple violations, including Reckless Driving Causing Death, Flee & Elude, and Driving with Suspended License.
