COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward during their Thursday work session a pay formula for the Sheriff’s Department new Undersheriff and Jail Administrator.
Sheriff-elect Fred Blakenship is trying to fill those positions before he takes office on January 1 but there are some salary issues.
Blankenship feels that the wages for these positions needed to be reviewed as there will be road sergeants making more than the Undersheriff and corrections officers making about the same as the Jail Administrator.
Commissioner Tom Mathew felt the proposal needed more study.
Eventually, the Commissioners brought forward a proposal to have the Undersheriff and the Jail Administrator start at the three year level. The same plan would be offered to other county departments.
Formal action is expected during the Commissioners meeting on Tuesday.
