QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – When newly elected 35th District State Representative Jennifer Wortz heads to Lansing after the first of the year, she will be part of the majority party in the House chamber.
Republicans took control of the 110 seat House chamber on Tuesday by flipping at least four seats which gave them a 58-52 majority. It ended total control of State of Michigan government by the Democrats.
Wortz says it’s never healthy when one party runs the whole show.
She was not happy about the state budget that was passed.
Wortz is concerned about the expansion of solar energy in Branch County.
Wortz defeated Democrat Don Hicks by an almost 3-1 margin in Tuesday’s election.
Calhoun County Commissioner Steve Frisbie was among the Republicans who ousted a Democratic incumbent as he defeated Jim Haadsma in the 44th district.
The Michigan Senate seats will be up for election in 2026. The Democrats currently have a 20-18 edge after they flipped both the Senate and the House in 2022.
