COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioners submitted a number of nominations for various boards during their Tuesday afternoon meeting.
Following the recent controversy involving the selection of a Branch County Department of Veterans Affairs Director, there is a considerable amount of interest to serve on the V.A. Board with seven nominees for two positions.
Commissioner Tom Matthew nominated William “Butch” Wilber, David Lindsey, Lawrence L. Jones, Matthew Jenkins, Ashley Levesque, Andrew Labadie and Thomas Lothamer to fill one expiring position and one partial term position that expires at the end of 2027.
Long time V.A. Director Charles Scott intended to retire at the end of the year but rescinded his retirement after the search for his successor turned messy.
As for the other boards, Commissioner Tim Stoll nominated Gordon Gentry, John Petzko and Janis Olney to be re-appointed to fill expiring positions on the Commission on Aging Board.
Commissioner Alan McClellan nominated Max Benjamin and Jeffrey Kelley to be re-appointed to fill expiring positions on the Department of Public Works Board. He also nominated Robert Mayer and Julie Wood to fill an expiring position on the Road Commission Board.
Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker nominated Susan Brooks to be re-appointed to fill an expiring position on the Library Board. He also nominated Debbie Lounds-Bowers and Sharon Atkinson to be re-appointed to fill expiring positions on the Planning Commission Board.
