EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The season is over for Branch County’s last two representatives in the MHSAA Volleyball Tournament. Both the Coldwater Cardinals and Bronson Vikings lost their Regional Final matches Thursday night.
At the Division 1 Regional at East Lansing, the Fenton Tigers swept the Cardinals out of the gym, winning 25-20, 25-17, 25-17. Coldwater was led by Ava Longstreet, who had 8 kills, 2 blocks, and 2 aces. Mya Porter had 8 kills and 9 digs, Brooklyn Closson dished out 12 assists, and Maren DeBeau had a team-high 11 digs.
The Cardinals wrap up their campaign with a record of 26-11-3. Fenton improved to 35-4 and will face Battle Creek Lakeview next Tuesday in the Division 1 Quarterfinal at Lansing Eastern; the Spartans won the Thornapple Kellogg Regional by defeating Portage Northern 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19.

At the Division 3 Regional Final at Bridgman, eighth-ranked Bronson pushed third-ranked Kalamazoo Christian to the limit. The Comets took the first two sets by identical 25-14 scores. The Vikings won the next two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-22. In the deciding fifth set, the defending Division 3 champion Comets prevailed, 15-8.
Bronson ends its season at 36-13-6. K-Christian improves to 31-8-2 and will take on Pewamo-Westphalia next Tuesday in a Division 3 Quarterfinal at Gull Lake.
Two teams from Battle Creek are still alive in this year’s tournament. In addition to Lakeview’s win against Portage Northern, Interstate 8 champion Harper Creek won the Division 2 Regional it hosted by sweeping Three Rivers 26-24, 25-6, 25-16. Next up for the Beavers: a Division 2 Quarterfinal match against Grand Rapids South Christian next Tuesday at Loy Norrix High School in Kalamazoo. Meanwhile, perennial Division 4 power St. Philip lost the Martin Regional Final to St. Joseph Our Lady of the Lakes 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.
