KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Kalamazoo County Prosecutors have charged an Athens man with leaving a child in a vehicle causing death in connection with the August death of his three year old son.
An arraignment for 36-year-old Chad Martin has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
WWMT-TV earlier reported he told authorities he forgot to drop off his son at a daycare on the morning of August 13 before heading to work.
He found his son still strapped into his car seat in the back of his SUV later that afternoon after stopping at the Family Fare in Vicksburg to get groceries.
The child’s death is believed to be from prolonged heat exhaustion as the high that day was 83 degrees.
