BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Satisfied that the buildings are now secure, Bronson Community Schools re-opened for classes on Thursday after numerous actions were taken following a break-in of Bronson Junior and Senior High School during the overnight hours of Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Superintendent Kate Wall said in a letter issued by the district that as staff and students arrived Tuesday morning at the Jr/Sr High School, they learned about the break-in and knew they needed to take immediate action to address the situation.
Branch County 9-1-1 Central Dispatch logs showed Bronson Police were dispatched at 7:29 a.m. on what was called a suspicious situation. A Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy provided assistance about a half hour late. State Police Trooper Jereme Miller and his K9 were dispatched to the school at 9:40 a.m..
Wall stated, “I fully recognize the inconvenience and uncertainty felt by many that surround the break-in/burglary that took place and the school closures that followed.”
She added to ensure students return to a safe school and to share as much information as we can with the public, law enforcement and school administrators have swept Bronson Jr/Sr High School with the MSP Canine Unit.
They also confirmed there were no forced/unforced entries at any other district buildings and that no physical damage occurred during the break in.
Exterior doors throughout the district have been rekeyed along with the interior doors at the Jr/Sr High School.
Wall says they have identified those responsible for the break-in and recovered all stolen items, including all of the building keys.
There are four individuals involved but their ages and identities have not been released since the police investigation is continuing.
Wall states they have consulted their legal team to ensure those involved are held accountable for their actions.
The Bronson School Board held a special meeting on Thursday morning. They immediately went into closed session to review school safety protocols and student discipline. Minutes from the meeting indicate the board adjourned without any formal action being taken.
