LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Figures released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed Branch County’s unemployment rate went back up in October to 4.2 percent.
Branch County’s jobless rate in September dropped to 3.8 percent after being at 4.5 percent in August.
Branch County had the 20th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties in October.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget data showed that not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose in 15 of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas over the month.
Labor market information director for the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics Wayne Rourke said, “Michigan regional labor markets exhibited modest jobless rate advances during October. However, payroll jobs and labor force levels rose considerably in most Michigan regions over the year.”
Calhoun County’s unemployment rate in October held steady at 4.9 percent. Jobless rates went up in both St. Joseph and Hillsdale Counties. It increased in St. Joseph County to 4.7 percent and in Hillsdale County to 4.9 percent.
Michigan’s October unemployment rate was 4.7 percent.
October unemployment rates around Michigan ranged from 3.2 percent in Livingston County to 7.9 percent in Oscoda County.
