COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arraigned Friday on seven charges in Branch County District Court after a five month Michigan State Police investigation into his alleged use of child sexually abusive material on his computer.
44-year-old Kenneth Lee Traver was charged with four counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material as well as two counts of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of aggravated child sexually abusive activity.
The State Police investigation began in late June as a trooper was using investigative software designed to detect known files of child sexually abusive materials. After a portion of a video was downloaded, it was discovered it belonged to a subscriber in Coldwater.
Search warrants were obtained for Traver’s residence where interviews were conducted.
According to Branch County Court documents, a Michigan Cyber Command Center report indicated that a search of Traver’s laptop showed he allegedly had over 49,000 pictures and 20 videos of child sex abuse.
Bond was set at $75,000 and Traver was ordered not to have contact with any minor child and he was told not to possess or use any electronic device that could connect to the internet if he should post bond.
Not guilty pleas were entered on the defendant’s behalf and he will be represented by the public defender’s office.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for December 5 with a preliminary exam on December 11.
