COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater pulled away from Sturgis late, outscoring the Trojans 10-4 in the final quarter, as the Cardinals prevailed 47-39 in the 2024-25 boys basketball season opener at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
Coldwater led 11-7 after one, 22-21 at halftime, and 37-35 after three. Sturgis stayed in the contest thanks to six 3-point baskets versus one for the Cards.
Ayden Dirschell led Coldwater with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals, while Niko Downs and Gavin Taylor each had 9 points and 2 assists. Julian Thompson had a team-high 6 boards. Lukis Bir led Sturgis with 15 points.
Coldwater will host Battle Creek Lakeview next Tuesday. The Spartans opened their season with a 53-49 loss at Marshall.

It was a clean sweep of the evening, as Coldwater won the JV game 44-32 and the freshman contest 46-30.
