Lona Jane Eraca, 74, of Burlington Township passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 8220 M-60, Union City, MI, 49094, with the Rev. Fr. Dan Hyman as celebrant. Full Military Honors will follow at the church.
Following cremation, a private interment will at Burlington Cemetery.
Visitation will take place from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, with a Rosary Service starting at 6:30 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI 49094.
Lona was born on January 1, 1950 to Fred and Ellen (Reynolds) Shaw in Battle Creek. She graduated from Marshall High School with the Class of 1968. She proudly served in the U.S Navy on the USS Hope, a hospital ship, as a Registered Nurse during the Vietnam War.
Lona earned her master’s in nursing from Fordham University in New York City. She went on to work at The New York State Institution in Beacon, New York and taught nursing classes at Dutchess County Community College in Fairview, New York.
January 10, 1976, she married Francis Joseph Eraca on the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, nicknamed Rosy Roads, in Ceiba, Puerto Rico.
Lona enjoyed helping others , helping with Boy Scouts with her husband Francis, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Union City, where she helped in many areas.
Surviving are her husband, Francis Eraca of Burlington; children, Michael (Tami) Eraca of Union City, William Eraca of Burlington, and Emily Eraca of Burlington; grandchildren, Kyle, Karson, Hailey and Daniel and her beloved dog, Krista.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Shaw and Ellen Gilroy; son, Francis Joseph Eraca Jr. in 1982; sister, Connie Harrington; and her niece Kelly Jo Case.
