COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater fell to 1-1 on the boys basketball season as they dropped a tight 58-55 decision to Battle Creek Lakeview at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The Spartans led 15-10 after the first quarter, but the Cardinals used a 22-16 advantage in the second to take a 32-31 halftime lead. After a 14-14 stalemate in the third, Lakeview closed the game out with a 13-9 advantage in the final stanza.
Ayden Dirschell and Jackson Reilly led Coldwater with 15 points apiece. Both had double-doubles, with Dirschell getting 14 rebounds and Reilly collecting 10. Gavin Taylor added 9 points.
LeBron Campbell led all scorers with 17 points for Lakeview before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. Four Spartan players scored in double figures, with 13 for Pierson Blair, 11 for Spencer Shotwell, and 10 for Jackson Hardy.
The Cardinals open up Interstate 8 play Friday night at Hastings. The Spartans, who improved to 1-1, open up SMAC East action Friday against visiting Gull Lake.

Coldwater won the JV game 44-36 behind 11 points from Joe Hayward and 10 from Evan Lewis. Lakeview took the freshman contest 35-28; Travon Mitchell led the Cardinals with 11 points.
