BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Unlike other parts of southwest Michigan, no advisories are in effect for Branch County but the weather over the next 24 to 36 hours will make you wonder why do you live here.
The National Weather Service says an approaching cold front will bring scattered snow showers Wednesday afternoon into early Wednesday evening.
The greatest coverage of snow showers will be downwind of Lake Michigan with the lake effect snow showers. Even outside of lake effect snow showers, the combination of scattered snow showers and gusty winds to 30 to 35 mph may result in rapid visibility reductions.
Areas along and north of the Toll Road will experience the greatest potential for hazardous travel conditions as the combination of wind and lake effect snow showers also may produce some blowing and drifting snow.
If that’s not bad enough, wind chills are expected to drop into the single digits below zero tonight into early Thursday morning.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for St. Joseph, Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties. Forecasters are calling for total snow accumulations of between 3 and 5
inches in Kalamazoo County with winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
Lake effect snow is expected in St. Joseph County with total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. Locally higher amounts possible.
Between 2 and 4 inches of snow is expected as well in Calhoun County.
