OLIVET, MI (WTVB) – Twenty-four hours after Coldwater dropped a 58-42 decision at Tecumseh, the Cardinals got back on track with a 56-50 non-conference win at Olivet.
Coldwater led 13-7 after the first quarter and 29-17 at halftime, but the Eagles used a press in the second half to help cut into the Cardinal lead. Olivet had a 12-11 edge in the third frame and a 21-16 advantage in the final stanza. Coldwater’s free throw shooting helped to preserve the victory, as they went 9-for-12 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and finished the game 13-for-18 overall.
Gavin Taylor led all scorers with 18 points, 13 of them coming in the second half, while adding 3 steals. Niko Downs had 11 points and 3 assists, and Ayden Dirschell finished with 10 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
The Cardinals will take a 3-2 record into their Saturday afternoon showdown at Portage Central.
For Olivet, who dropped to 0-4, Zaiden Bramer and Jack Masters had 13 points apiece, while Ethan Myers added 12.

In the JV game, Coldwater scored the first 11 points of the contest and cruised to a 57-33 victory. Wayne Case drained four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, while Trevor Mitchell added 9.
