Betty Lou Carpenter, 85, of Quincy, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at The Laurels of Coldwater.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Batavia Community Church, 247 N. Batavia Road, Coldwater, MI 49036, with Rev. Jim Hazecamp of the Faith Harvest Christian Fellowship officiating. Interment will follow at California Corners Cemetery, south of Quincy.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.
Betty was born on October 7, 1939 in Angola, Indiana to Preston and Nancy (Jones) Bradley. She grew up in Fremont, Indiana and graduated from Fremont High School in 1958. Just before graduating, she married Norman D. Carpenter on January 19, 1958 at the Ray Community Church. The couple made their home in Quincy and raised four children.
She was active at many area churches throughout the years; Ray Community Church, Bethel Gilead Community Church, Church of the Nazarene in Coldwater, and most recently she was a member at the Batavia Community Church.
Betty taught Sunday School for both the little kids and teens at Batavia. She was very crafty and loved to do ceramics. She was primarily a homemaker to her family most of her life, but also worked at the Coldwater Walmart store for 17 years as a clerk at the layaway department.
In addition to her husband, Norman D. Carpenter, Betty is also survived by her children, Scott (Jan) Carpenter of Coldwater, Todd (Barb) Carpenter of Quincy, and Lisa Gaudiello of Coldwater; her sister Kathy Gates of Fremont, IN; 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Rodney Carpenter, and her brothers, Willard, Frank, and Ralph Bradley.
