COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council this afternoon is expected to go along with the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities in approving a one year contract for tree trimming services with Davey Tree Experts.
Over the last several years, CBPU and the City have shared a contract with Asplundh Tree Experts, LLC on a time and material basis to maintain adequate clearance around city power lines, and to trim and remove dead trees in the right-of-way. According to City Manager Keith Baker, Asplundh has struggled to maintain adequate staffing levels to meet the expectations of CBPU and City as of late.
The CBPU and the City of Coldwater reached out to three tree trimming contractors to provide proposals for the required tree trimming services.
Davey Tree Experts of Kent, Ohio submitted the highest bid at over $373,000 but they would have a three man crew while the other two services, Asplundh Tree Experts, LLC and Wright Tree Services would have two-man crews.
Wright’s bid was over $317,000 while the Asplundh bid was just under $255,000.
Electric Superintendent John Springhall told the CBPU Board of Directors earlier this month that it was felt the most qualified bidder for the work would be a three-man crew from Davey Tree Experts.
The Coldwater City Council will vote on the contract at their meeting this afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
