Elizabeth Ruth “Betty” Heimberger, 87, of Tekonsha, Michigan, formerly of Niles, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at her home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Niles.
Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Betty was born October 8, 1937 in Ovid, Michigan to John and Clara (Nolte) Behrens. She married Leon Heimberger June 24, 1960. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2019. They had three children: Darrell, Debbie and Diane.
Betty earned her bachelor’s degree in education and taught school until she was married. She spent many years as a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker while raising her children.
Betty was very active and filled her time with a variety of jobs. She started her own business, worked at a daycare, a donut factory and cared for the elderly. She was also the secretary at the co-op where she lived on Oak Street.
Betty was an active member of Hope Community Church in Niles for many years. She had a loving heart and a strong faith that she demonstrated in her life daily. She loved shopping, especially garage sales and thrift stores. She also loved to bake and was known for her pies and other sweets. She always kept busy – spending time with friends, helping others and just being a grandma to her grandchildren Alex, Andrew, Marie and Phillip.
Betty is survived by her children Darrell (Sunshine) Heimberger of Benton City, WA, Deborah (Dennis) Russell of Tekonsha, MI, Diane (Robert) Carey of Tekonsha, MI; her sister Katherine Behrens of Ovid, MI; her grandson Alex (Christine) Heimberger of Greenville, MI; her great grandsons Asher and Thomas and her beloved dogs Charlie and Rosie.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Ernest Behrens, John Behrens, Erwin Behrens, and her sister Marianne Mattox.
