BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s basketball teams traveled to the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse Friday to open up the annual Chuck Turner Classic, and both squads came away with victories.
The Charger boys snapped a two-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, as Eli Payne’s 3-pointer at the buzzer lifted Union City to a 50-47 win over St. Philip. Payne finished with a game-high 27 points as the Chargers improved to 5-3 on the season. They return to action next Friday, January 3rd, at Homer.
The Lady Chargers improved to 3-3 on the season as they defeated St. Philip 58-44. Ellie Williams led all scorers with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Nala Payne had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals. Union City will host Homer at the McNett Fieldhouse next Friday, January 3rd.
