HICKSVILLE, OH (WTVB) – A very rare minor earthquake that had a magnitude of 2-point-9 was reported Sunday morning in parts of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake was reported at 6:46 a.m. with an epicenter about a half mile southeast of Hicksville, Ohio. It had a depth of 9.5 kilometers.
Nearly 60 people in the area said they felt the quake and items in homes rattled but no damage was reported.
The map on the USGS web site showed waves were felt as far away as north of Angola, along the Michigan-Indiana border and in Pioneer, Ohio.
The earthquake is considered to be unusual as there are no known fault lines in Defiance County area.
