WAYNE, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater’s girls basketball team played well for three quarters of their contest against Detroit Cass Tech Monday afternoon at Wayne Memorial High School’s Alumni Arena. The Cardinals’ 23-8 first quarter deficit wound up being too much to overcome, as the Technicians posted a 52-46 victory during the second day of the Michigan Winter Hoopfest showcase.
Coldwater outscored Cass Tech 10-6 in the second quarter, 13-10 in the third, and 15-13 in the fourth, but the Technicians overcame a 14-for-27 performance from the free throw line to improve to 7-2.
Mya Porter led the Cardinals with 13 points, tied for game-high honors with Cass Tech’s Natasha Shell. Porter also had 8 rebounds and a block, while Audrina Bucklin added 10 points and Coley Burkhardt had 7 points, 8 boards, and 2 steals. Elli Foley had a team-high 5 assists to go with 6 points and 7 rebounds.
Coldwater drops to 4-2 on the season and will host Holt Saturday afternoon.
