UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The first night of Branch County high school basketball for 2025 took place on Friday.
The Homer Trojans defeated former Big 8 Conference foe Union City 61-37 in a girls basketball game at McNett Fieldhouse.
The Trojans full court press forced numerous Union City turnovers in the first half as Homer led 18-8 after the first quarter and 32-18 at the half.
Homer dashed any hopes of a Charger come back with a 17-6 third quarter which built their lead to 49-24.
Nala Payne led Union City with 11 points while Madison Krummrey and Ellie Williams each scored eight points.
Alivia Warner scored a game-high 19 points for Homer. Union City’s record is now 3-4.
Also in Branch County girls basketball on Friday night, Bronson lost at Concord 49-46 as the Vikings were beaten for the first time this season. Bronson is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 8.
Quincy lost in overtime on their home court to arch-rival Reading 48-38. The Orioles are now 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the Big 8.
In Branch County boys basketball, Union City romped to a 77-45 victory at Homer as the Chargers improved their record to 6-3.
The Bronson Vikings remained red hot as they earned their fifth straight win. The Vikings won at Bellevue 69-55 as they improved to 6-2.
