COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The 2025 portion of the high school basketball schedule did not get off to a good start for the Coldwater Cardinal teams on Saturday afternoon as they were swept by the Holt Rams at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
Coldwater fell behind 23-5 after the first quarter in the varsity girls game and lost to Holt 44-32. The Cardinals managed to outscore the Rams 23-10 in the second and third quarter to trim the deficit to 33-28 heading into the fourth period.
But Holt used a 11-4 fourth quarter to seal the victory. Elli Foley led Coldwater with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Mya Porter added eight points and three steals. Coley Burkhardt had four assists.
The loss dropped Coldwater’s record to 4-3.

The Coldwater boys also lost to Holt 49-46 as their record dropped to 4-6.
Holt jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter. Coldwater tried to battle back as they cut the lead down to 26-20 at the half and 39-32 after three quarters but their rally fell short.
Gavin Taylor led Coldwater with 18 points while Ayden Dirschell added 13 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two assists while Austin Downs had 10 points.

Holt also won all of the underclassmen games.
Freshman Boys: Holt 61, Coldwater 40
JV Boys: Holt 63, Coldwater 54 (Travon Mitchell led CHS with 10 points while Joe Hayward added nine points)
JV Girls: Holt 34, Coldwater 20
