COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 63-year-old Coldwater man has died from his injuries at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne after his bicycle was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning on Michigan Avenue north of U.S. 12.
Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid says Charles Edward Ward passed away and that an autopsy was performed on Thursday morning. Police are awaiting the results.
Coldwater Police were dispatched at 8:08 a.m. Wednesday morning. It was determined by police that Ward was attempting to cross Michigan Avenue when he was struck by a 2016 Ford Fusion which was driven by a 24-year-old Coldwater woman whose name was not released.
The Coldwater Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded to the scene to treat the injured bicyclist.
LifeCare Ambulance took the injured man to Insight Hospital and Medical Center in Coldwater. He was later transferred to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
A traffic crash reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police assisted Coldwater Police and the case is currently under investigation.
