COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys and girls basketball teams will be holding their Ball Out for Breast Cancer basketball games on Friday, January 24 when they host the Hastings Saxons.
The goals of the event are to raise breast cancer awareness, encourage regular breast cancer screening to increase the chances of early detection, and to raise money to assist local community members meet the financial burdens that arise during treatments.
Money will be raised through a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, an on-line shirt sales, and pink donation jars.
Proceeds from the inaugural event allowed the basketball programs to aid six Coldwater families by providing gas cards to assist with the cost of traveling to appointments and treatments.
Proceeds from this year’s event will allow them to continue this form of financial assistance.
A ceremony will be held between the varsity girls and boys basketball games to honor all of those who have lost their battle to breast cancer, those in attendance who are currently in the fight, and all breast cancer survivors. All attendees are being asked to wear pink if at all possible.
The girls team will get the doubleheader started with a 5:30 tip off.
