COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The deaths of a man and a woman is being investigated by the Coldwater Police Department.
According to a press release from the Coldwater Department of Public Safety, 54-year-old Larry Wheeler and 40-year-old Kari Close were found deceased in a camper trailer parked behind a factory in the 400 block of Race Street on Monday night.
Wheeler and Close were both from Coldwater.
Public Safety Director Joe Scheid says police were called to the area at about 6:19 p.m. Monday evening by a family member who stopped by the camper to check on the occupants after one of them failed to show up to work that day.
The Branch County 9-1-1 log shows a Coldwater Police officer was dispatched to the trailer earlier in the day at 11:50 a.m. on a welfare check. The log also showed Coldwater firefighters were dispatched to that location at 6:37 p.m. on a carbon monoxide report. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine their cause of death.
Police noted that temperatures on Monday varied from a low of three below to a high of 7 degrees above zero.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Coldwater Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance.
