ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding led to the arrest of two persons on U.S. 20 near County Road 200 West near Angola.
Indiana State Police Troopers say they stopped the vehicle which was driven by 35-year-old Anthony Steel of Fort Wayne at about 6:17 p.m. on Sunday night.
During the traffic stop, another Trooper and his K-9 partner were called to perform a check of the vehicle.
The investigation led to the discovery of a stolen handgun and a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Steel and a passenger, 20-year-old Lita Smoker of Angola, were both arrested and transported to the Steuben Count Jail.
All evidence was seized and taken to the Indiana State Police Regional Lab for testing.
Steel was arrested on felony charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Theft of a Firearm, Trafficking Contraband into a Correctional Facility and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Smoker was arrested on felony counts of Dealing Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine, Theft of Firearm and Possession of Methamphetamine.
They were also both booked on misdemeanor counts for Possession of Paraphernalia.
Indiana State Police was assisted by the Angola Police Department.
