COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Main Street Director Audrey Tappenden told the Historic District Commission on Wednesday night that two Hillsdale County residents are still working to put a ice cream shop into the former Lefty’s Lounge building on South Monroe.
The Coldwater City Council approved a $32,000 offer from Cody Hawkes and his wife Sydney over a year ago to purchase the property.
Tappenden said they are still working through an application to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for funding.
She added this shows why things take time.
Originally, the Hawkes were hoping the business would open later this year. They plan to be open during the summer months during the daytime and early evening since they both have full time jobs.
Lefty’s Lounge closed in 2016 and the building has been vacant since that time.
