BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Capri Drive-In Theater west of Coldwater is among 11 Michigan properties that were listed in the National Register of Historic Places during 2024 according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The Capri is Michigan’s first drive-in listed in the Register. It opened in 1964 and can accommodate over 800 vehicles.
A second screen was relocated from a defunct drive-in near Detroit and added to the Capri property in the 1980s.
The signature neon Capri sign along U.S. 12 and the ticket booth, concessions stand and Screen 1 are all the original 1964 design.
The Capri was operated for many year by John and Mary Magocs. Their son Tom and his wife Susan now run the theater with the help of their children.
