COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Coldwater men who were arrested after a South Monroe Street pepper spray incident on February 8 were formally charged during arraignments on Monday in Branch County District Court.
24-year-old James Ryall and 20-year-old Dakota McDaniel were each charged with two felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Both are free after posting $15,000 bonds. Their bonds were continued during Monday’s arraignment.
The incident was reported outside of Jim’s Place at around 11:00 p.m. on the 8th and was captured on the City of Coldwater’s South Monroe Street camera.
According to court documents, the two suspects wore masks as they videotaped outside of the business. The alleged victims told police the two masked individuals approached them after they came out of the business, began recording them and when they reached out their hands, they were pepper sprayed.
A physical confrontation took place after the two alleged victims appeared to reach for the suspects cameras. A Life Care Ambulance crew treated the two men who were sprayed.
Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of Ryall and McDaniel. Probable cause hearings were set for March 6.
Preliminary exams were scheduled for McDaniel on March 12 and for Ryall on March 13.
