PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater varsity boys swim and dive team set a school record for points scored and qualified the most ever for the SMAC Championship Finals which were held at Portage Northern on Friday and Saturday.
Cooper Otto and Taylor Eberts were both first team all-conference while Mason Sabaitis was second team all-conference.
The Cards finished in seventh out of 10 schools. Otto qualified on Friday for the finals in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke with team records in both events.
He then broke both of those records again on Saturday finishing fifth in the 50 Freestyle and third in the 100 Backstroke.
Eberts qualified for the finals in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle with team records in both events. He broke the 200 Freestyle record again on Saturday finishing sixth and then finished fourth in the 500 Freestyle.
Sabaitis qualified for the finals in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle with personal bests in both. He finished 10th in the 50 Freestyle and sixth in the 100 Freestyle with another personal best.
Benny Travelbee qualified for the finals in diving finishing ninth on Saturday with a personal best.
Ivan McConnell qualified for the finals in diving finishing 10th on Saturday with a personal best.
Brennen King qualified for the finals in the 200 Freestyle and finished 16th on Saturday.
The Cardinals also qualified all of their relays into the finals with the 200 Freestyle relay of Sabaitis, Logun Fisher, Mason Grabowski, and Otto making the podium finishing sixth. The 400 Freestyle relay of Sabaitis, Fisher, McConnell, and Eberts also made the podium as they finished seventh.
