LANAING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan’s voter identification requirements would change under a resolution approved yesterday by the state House Election Integrity Committee.
The resolution was introduced by Representative Bryan Posthumus of Rockford and is similar to the federal SAVE Act that is before Congress. Posthumus says the resolution proposes a state constitutional amendment to require a voter’s U.S. citizenship to be verified before an election.
A Chinese student at the University of Michigan falsely claimed he was a U.S. citizen when he registered to vote and cast his ballot in October 2024, and the ballot counted. That is the only known incident of a non-citizen casting a vote in Michigan in 2024.
