YPSILANTI, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys swim and dive team had a successful finish to their season over the weekend at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three state meet hosted by Eastern Michigan University.
The Cardinals had six swimmers and two divers competing. The prelims on Friday started with the 200 medley relay where Taylor Eberts, Cooper Otto, Mason Grabowski, and Mason Sabaitis improved from their seed time with a season best time, to finish up three spots in 23rd place.
Eberts then swam the 200 Freestyle and qualified into the finals with a 15th in the prelim. Otto then swam the 50 Free and qualified with a new team record in sixth place.
Eberts swam his second individual event and finished 23rd in the 100 Free. Then the relay of Mason Grabowski, Mason Sabaitis, Eberts, and Otto became the first ever Coldwater relay team to qualify for the finals with a new team record as they finished 14th.
Otto then swam his second individual event finishing 18th. Benny Travelbee then finished the day in diving where he became the first Cardinal boy to qualify into the finals in diving.
On Saturday, Eberts started off the finals with a new team record in the 200 Free as finished 11th.
Otto then became the first boy in Coldwater swim team history to go all-state finishing sixth in the 50 Free.
Then in diving, Travelbee became the highest placing boy ever for Coldwater as finished 14th.
And to finish the day, the relay of Grabowski, Sabaitis, Eberts and Otto finished, with their second team record on the weekend, in 10th place in the 200 Freestyle relay.
Overall, the Coldwater boys team finished with the most points they have ever scored as they were 14th out of 41 schools.
