COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Local non-profit ADAPT, Incorporated will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in April.
An Open House will be held in Coldwater later this summer which will welcome individuals ADAPT serves, their families and guardians, current employees, Board members and partner agencies.
ADAPT’s main office is located on Morse Street. They serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Founded in 1975, ADAPT began as a response to the need for services for adults with disabilities. At first, the organization served 14 individuals at 27 East Garfield in Coldwater. Today it has grown significantly, operating 16 residential homes, 22 independent living units, and serving more than 250 individuals daily across Branch and St. Joseph counties.
ADAPT provides a wide range of services including residential programs, employment assistance, a workshop, a clubhouse for adults with chronic mental health challenges, respite care, day programs, subsidized apartments, and Community Living Supports (CLS) to help individuals live as independently as possible.
These programs are primarily funded by Community Mental Health Agencies, including Pines in Branch County and Pivotal in St. Joseph County.
The organization’s services cater to individuals, many of whom transition from Special Education programs at the Intermediate School Districts.
ADAPT’s work programs provide training, job placements, and ongoing supervision to ensure success.
The mission at ADAPT is to promote community participation and the highest level of independence unique to each individual served.
