Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Glenn was born February 19, 1935 in Coldwater, MI to C. Gerald & Pearl (Fredrickson) Brodt. He married his high school sweetheart Alice E. Hillborg May 9, 1954 in Coldwater. They have celebrated 70 years of marriage, focused on a life, centered around Christ.
Mr. Brodt was the supervisor at Oak Grove Cemetery for 50 years, completing over 5,200 burials before his retirement in 2000. He was part of a multi-generational legacy of workers at the cemetery beginning with his father C. Gerald Brodt, his uncle Max Brodt and then his son Gerald E. Brodt following in his footsteps. Glenn loved to share the history of the cemetery with others, especially stories about “Old Sam” the Civil War horse that is buried there.
Glenn was a former member of the First Baptist Church and currently a member of Lockwood Community Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved gardening, fishing, deer hunting and trips to the Upper Peninsula, was active in the Sportsman’s Club and teaching hunter safety. He enjoyed making homemade applesauce to give to others.
Glenn was a skilled woodworker and builder; proud to have built a home by hand, one piece at a time with no power tools. He had more tools than he could organize and was constantly consumed with projects in his retirement, especially making birdhouses and manger scenes. He supported many community projects like 4-H and Boy Scouts, even if he didn’t know anyone involved.
Glenn enjoyed attending his grandkids many sporting events and activities and was a lover of animals, squirrels, birds and his pets, especially his dog Molly. He was intentionally predictable, raising 5 good-hearted children. There was warmth in knowing, he would be consistent and exactly where you stood. He was approachable, kind and always willing to share his knowledge.
Glenn is survived by his wife Alice; his children Rebecca (Bernie) Stankewicz, Rachelle (Mark) Clemens, Renee (Michael) Welke, Gerald (Laura) Brodt all of Coldwater, Robinette (Robert) Ginter of Tecumseh; his grandchildren Jennifer Rochford, Aaron (Nicky) Stankewicz, Corey (Elizabeth) Dow, Allison Clemens, Adam (Hannah) Clemens, Alexis Clemens, Mariah Welke, Makyle (Natalie) Welke, Malina Welke, Maryelle Brodt, Matthew (Camryn) Ginter, Kira Ginter, Andrew Ginter; great grandchildren Leah, Anthony, Ella, Grady, Madeline, Arthur, Wrenn, Rylie, Mika and Theo and his beloved dog Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Carl & Chrystal Hillborg and sisters Pauline Mary Smoker and Anna Jane Fate.
Memorials may be directed to Lockwood Community Church or the Humane Society of Branch County.
