BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson Community Schools this week hosted the first of two community information sessions before voters in the district go to the polls May 6.
District voters are being asked to approve a bonding issue that would be used to finance improvements at Anderson Elementary School and at other locations in the district. The renovations at Anderson would include expansion to allow the closing of Ryan Elementary, which was built in the 1950’s.
Ryan currently serves third, fourth, and fifth graders, with kindergarten, first, and second graders at Anderson.
The district is seeking permission to borrow no more than $32,330,000 and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds.
Projects that would be funded by this proposal include an addition and renovations at Anderson including a secure entry/vestibule and main office area, additional classrooms to house students in grades K-5, a full-size gymnasium, a media center along with dedicated art and music rooms.
A yes vote would also allow the district to convert the six lane yardage track to an eight lane metric track and build new tennis courts.
The bonds would be outstanding for no more than 25 years. The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2025 is 4.98 mills, but school officials say the current sinking fund would be reduced to make the net increase on 4.0 mills.
The next informational session is scheduled for Monday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Anderson Elementary gymnasium.
