COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Starting Monday, April 21, 2025, Coldwater Board of Public Utilities crews will begin flushing hydrants throughout the City of Coldwater.
Hydrant flushing will take place daily from 6:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. and will finish by Friday, April 25.
Hydrant flushing will start with Ward 1, then 4, 2, and finally 3. This process ensures water quality and that the City’s water distribution systems are working properly.
Residents can track the progress of CBPU crews with the Hydrant Flushing Map at Coldwater.org.
While hydrant flushing takes place, motorists should proceed with caution through the detour area. During this time, residents may notice a slight discoloration in their water. If this occurs, slowly run cold water out of the faucet until the water becomes clear.
Before hydrant flushing begins, residents may want to do their laundry. Additionally, hydrant flushing is a great time to flush hot water heaters, which thereby improves their quality and efficiency.
Hydrant flushing should help with the excess iron and manganese in the system attributed to the filter rebuild that happened this winter.
