QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – After five years on the job in what she called a difficult atmosphere, Quincy Village Manager Brittany Butler has stepped down.
The Village Council accepted her resignation at a special meeting Tuesday night, and appointed Village Trustee Ryan Smead as Interim Village Manager
In her resignation letter to the Village Council, Butler wrote, “It has been disheartening to witness the level of negativity and misinformation circulating within the community. I believe open and constructive dialogue is essential for a healthy municipality, and it’s unfortunate when concerns are voiced through less productive channels.”
She also said, “It’s also been difficult to see my family affected by these issues. I hope that those who feel compelled to criticize will consider engaging more directly in positive civic contributions.”
“We’ve navigated a pandemic, natural disasters, complex personnel situations, and, regrettably, some instances of harassment from residents.”
“With our personal business continuing to grow, we felt it was the right time to make this change.”
The Village Council agreed to hire Michigan Municipal League consultant Curtis Holt to conduct a search for a full-time replacement.
Butler had been Administrative Assistant to previous Village Manager Eric Zuzga before being named his replacement in January 2020.
