COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After getting approval from the Downtown Development Authority board last week, the Coldwater Main Street Program is issuing a call for artists for the public art project.
A Request for Proposals is now available seeking submissions for one small commissioned mural and two sculptures to be installed downtown for a one year period. The RFP includes information about mural and sculpture locations, artist compensation, program timeline, selection criteria, and more.
Interested artists can access the RFP at DowntownColdwater.com or may request a packet by emailing downtown@coldwater.org. Submissions are due Friday, April 18.
Selected works will be installed in early summer, and will be prominently featured on the Downtown Coldwater website as part of an upcoming self-guided arts walking tour, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate the diverse artistic expressions that make our
community unique.
These new installations will also join several other art projects planned for the spring, including a large sculpture created by welding students at the Branch Area Careers Center, and several paintings by the Coldwater High School National Arts Honor Society.
The Coldwater Main Street Art Program is a direct outcome of the 2024 Corridor and Public Amenity Survey, which identified a clear demand for more public art in the downtown.
Dean Walrack, Chair of the Design Committee said “We on the Coldwater Main Street Design Committee are thrilled to invite artists to leave their mark on our community. Our goal is to establish a sustainable annual program that transforms blank walls, public plazas, and parks into canvases for muralists and sculptors, bringing vibrancy to our community through their vision and talents.”
Coldwater Main Street plans for the Art Program to be a multi-year effort, working with student artists and other regional talent alike.
