Marjorie Jane Tomson, 87, formerly of Coldwater, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home Sunday, March 30, 2025.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Lockwood Cemetery in Coldwater, with Pastor Kevin Looper from Lockwood Community Church officiating.
Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Marjorie was born on October 7, 1937, in Rothsay, Minnesota, to Willie and Murien (Trana) Skriden. She was raised with strong family values that shaped the compassionate and resilient woman she became.
October 22, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jerry M. Tomson, and together they built a life in Coldwater, Michigan. They shared a deep and enduring love, raising two wonderful children, Michael and Lisa, while running the Tomson Insurance Agency as a team.
A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Marjorie was also an active member of her community. She was involved in the Jaycees, volunteered at school with her children, and was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church before joining Lockwood Community Church.
After the unexpected passing of her husband Jerry in 1988, Marjorie faced life’s challenges with resilience. She carried on his legacy by managing their insurance business.
Family was at the center of Marjorie’s life. She was a loving mother to Lisa and Michael, and after Michael’s passing, she leaned on her daughter-in-law, Kathy, for support. Her grandson, Aiden Mullens, was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment they spent together.
Marjorie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved traveling, especially to Englewood and Venice, Florida, where she would return tanned and beaming. She also had a deep appreciation for lighthouses, reflecting her own steadfast and guiding spirit. Her beloved Santa collection brought warmth and magic to her home during the holidays, just as she brought warmth to the lives of those around her.
One of her proudest traditions was organizing the annual Trana Reunion at the Coldwater Lake Cottage, ensuring family ties remained strong. Her ability to bring people together was a true gift that will live on in the memories of those who loved her.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her son, Michael; her parents, Willie and Murien Skriden; her brothers, David Skriden and LeRoy Jack Skriden; and her niece, Heidi Skriden.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Charlie) Tomson Mullens; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Tomson; her beloved grandson, Aiden Mullens; and her nieces, Holly (Ryan) King and Ramona Skriden.
Marjorie’s legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Like the lighthouses she adored, her presence was a guiding light, and though she may be gone, that light will never fade. Rest in peace, Marjorie. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Memorials may be directed to Sparrow Home Hospice or Lockwood Community Church.
