COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- Consumers energy says between this weeks ice storm in the north and severe weather in the south, this weeks system ranks as one of the top ten worst in the company’s history. At it’s peak on Monday morning Consumers says they had 285,544 customers without power and that has been taxing on their lineman but it’s something they are trained for, Vice President of electric operations Chris Laird says crews work 16 hours on and are off for 8 hours, he says they have athletic trainers on site to assist with any physical issues the lineman may have as well as making sure the are eating healthy and staying hydrated.
Laird says they have brought in extra crews from in and out of state to assist in getting the power back on for everyone. As of this morning power outages system wide was down to 42,428 including just over 1,600 in Branch County.
