COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two rounds of severe weather impacted West Michigan last week. The first, more widespread event occurred on Sunday, March 30 with seven confirmed tornados.
More severe weather followed on Wednesday, April 2nd. Between those two events, nine tornadoes touched down in West Michigan, including the two EF-1 tornados Branch County. Four other tornadoes were confirmed in central and eastern Michigan on March 30th, bringing the total to 13.
All of those tornadoes were rated an EF0 or EF1, which is on the low end of the Enhanced Fujita scale between 0 and 5.
In a typical year, Michigan sees 13 tornadoes, with the most active months being May and June. In addition to the tornados there were also wind gusts of 59 MPH recorded in Coldwater and 64 MPH in Sturgis
