UNDATED (WTVB) – The weather was warm and dry enough Friday for the Bronson and Quincy to finally play their Big 8 softball doubleheaders that were rescheduled from Tuesday. The Vikings and Orioles swept their opposition.
Bronson 15, Reading 0 (3 innings); Bronson 23, Reading 3 (3 innings)
At Bronson, the Vikings improved to 2-0 in the Big 8 and 2-1 overall with a pair of 3-inning victories, 15-0 and 23-3.
Ashlynn Harris threw a no-hitter in the opener with one walk and nine strikeouts. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles, while Roni Bir hit a grand slam home run, Braelynn Giminez went 3-for-3 with two singles and a homer, and Kyra McCormick had a single and a triple. All told, Bronson was able to collect 13 hits.
The Viking bats continued to boom in the nightcap as they collected 16 hits. Lydia Wells went 3-for 4 with a songle, double, and triple, while Kailynne Scare went 4-for-4 with three singles, a home run, and five runs batted in. Madison Shaw and combined on a three-hitter, with Shaw earning the victory.
Head coach Becky Gray commented, “The pitchers pitched well tonight and we hit well. Everyone was able to contribute.”
Bronson will compete Saturday at the Merry Jo Tavernier Invitational at Three Rivers.
Quincy 11, Concord 2 (5 innings); Quincy 21, Concord 6 (4 innings)
At Concord, Quincy swept to victory in their Big 8 opener, 11-2 and 21-6, as they improved to 4-2 overall.
In Game 1, Deziray Skirka had four RBIs on two hits, a single and a double. Shaylee Cope and Miley Poindexter also singled and doubled, with Cope driving in three Oriole runs. Hannah Brown was the winning pitcher, allowing both Yellow Jacket runs on four hits, no walks, and four stikeouts in three innings of work. Danica Skirka threw two innings of no-hit ball and struck out six.
In Game 2, Deziray Skirka hit an inside-the-park homer and finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Poindexter added two triples and a single; both drove in four runs. Danica Skirka went 3-for-3, and Makiya Feltner tripled. Taylor Lewis earned the victory, allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Orioles are back in action Saturday at the Marshall Sportsfest.
