SPRINGFIELD, MI (WTVB)- The Calhoun County Sheriffs Department says a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Saturday night. At approximately 7:13 p.m., deputies was dispatched to the area of N 20th Street and Avenue A in in Springfield.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the engineer and conductor operating the Canadian National Railway (CN) train . Deputies immediately began canvassing the area along the railroad tracks and located a male victim beneath the train. Life-saving measures were initiated by sheriffs personnel and emergency medical responders; however, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was identified as a 43-year-old male from the City of Springfield. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Calhoun Area Multi-Jurisdictional Evidence Team (CAMJET) assisted with processing the scene. The Calhoun County Medical Examiner’s Office was also notified to aid in the ongoing investigation.
CN was contacted and provided additional resources following the investigation to move the train from the area.
