COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation Monday night for a reconstruction project which is scheduled to take place this summer on North Clay Street between Grand Street and Waterman Avenue.
The project is estimated to cost $1,187,570 with an estimated local contribution of over $802,000.
Not only will a portion of North Clay be reconstructed, the watermain between Grand and Waterman will be replaced. There will also be concrete curb, sidewalk, gutter and drainage improvements.
Work is scheduled to take place while school is not in session this summer.
MDOT requires a local unit of government to acknowledge and formally support a proposed project they will be working on.
Meanwhile, the City Council approved a bid of just under $209,000 from Pavement Maintenance Systems of Indianapolis for the 2025 micro surfacing
street maintenance project.
Pavement Maintenance Systems submitted the only bid for the work.
Micro surfacing is designed to extend the life of the pavement for a number
of years.
North Michigan Avenue is scheduled for micro surfacing this year from State Street to Seeley and from Smith Street to U.S. 12.
Other micro surfacing work is scheduled for Thompson Blvd. from Seeley Street to Pillsbury Avenue, on Henry Street between Munson and North Polk, on North Clay from Harrison to U.S. 12, on North Hanchett from Harrison to U.S. 12, on West Washington from South Clay to North Jefferson and on South Monroe from West Washington to West Park.
Pavement Maintenance Systems completed similar work for the City in 2024.
Drive down west Pearl St and see how well that surfacing type holds up.
That surfacing works about as well as that chip seal that is now all over my grass near the road. Total waste of tax payer money.
