COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- The Arbor Day Foundation has named Coldwater a 2024 Tree City USA recipient , in honor of it’s commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit the community.
The Arbor Day Foundation is a global non profit with a mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. It’s network of more than a million supporters and partners has helped the organization plant more than 500 million trees since 1972.
Michelle Saulnier, Vice President of Programs at the Arbor Day Foundation says ” We all have a role to play in shaping our future and champions like Coldwater are leading the way”, she says ” We’re proud Coldwater is among the Arbor Day Foundations growing network of communities dedicated to creating a positive impact through trees”.
To earn Tree City USA recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, have a community tree ordinance, spend at least 2$ per capita on urban forestry, and participate in an Arbor Day celebration.
Coldwater Mayor Thomas Kramer has proclaimed April 25th as Arbor Day in the city of Coldwater. He encourages residents to support efforts to protect trees and woodlands, as well as plant trees to gladden the heart and promote well-being of this and future generations.
