BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman presented a draft of the city’s 2025-26 budget during Monday’s City Council meeting which projects $1-point-77 million in general fund expenditures and has a projected deficit of nearly $324,500.
The budget included $175,000 for a possible Compton Street road project with MDOT potentially providing a grant of up to 50 percent of the costs. The city will be reapplying for the grant after not being awarded funds last year.
The budget also has $85,000 for materials to replace lead and galvanized service lines.
Mersman said the budget includes just under $2-point-8 million for the City’s State Revolving Loan project to stop leaks in city sewer lines as required under the City’s Administrative Consent Order with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
With the Municipal Employees Retirement Systems of Michigan pension increasing to four percent for some employees, the proposed budget calls for a five percent raise for city employees.
Mersman said the proposed budget does not show the Fiscal Year 2025 projected budget or the projected fund balance numbers. Those will be completed closer to the end of the budget year.
