COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- The city of Coldwater celebrated Arbor Day and its 19th year as a “Tree City USA” participant with the installation of a student-made sculpture.
Branch County high school students from the Branch Area Careers Center were tasked with creating a sculpture, at least five feet tall, to honor the city’s Tree City USA designation.
After sketching out their idea, the welding students from the Branch Area Careers Center (BACC) created a 16 foot sculpture of a tree, titled “Branching Out.” Students worked for months to bring their idea to life, individually welding each branch and leaf.
The sculpture will stand as a permanent art piece at the Four Corners in the downtown.
Crews from the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities installed the sculpture Friday morning.
“Branching Out” is set to be be formally unveiled and dedicated Wednesday, April 30..
